Abstract
Scrub typhus is a systemic illness that targets the central nervous system and causes generalized vasculitis. Several cases of encephalitis or meningitis associated with this rickettsial disease have been reported, but cerebral infarction is extremely rare in scrub typhus patients. In this paper, we describe two cases of cerebral infarction associated with scrub typhus. Scrub typhus was diagnosed by the presence of eschar and high serum titers of immunoglobulin (Ig) M antibodies. In addition, brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed acute infarctions in both patients. (Korean J Stroke 2007;9:168-170)
